  • First round of immunizations Monday

This is going to be no fun. Three IM shots (the big ones): Pneumococcal Conjugate (PVC), Haemophilus Influenzae type B (Hib), and Dipthera - Tetanus - Acellur Pertussis (DTaP). The one subcutaneous: Inactivated Polio (IPV).

More shots will come two months later. And then more shots at the 2-year mark. I'm skipping the Hep B series, for reasons I've discussed in my blog....

Turns out I'm on hold for another week. My HMO has gobs of meds, but since the state pays for those to vaccinate kids for free, I can't touch them. So my shots have to be special ordered. At least during my visit we came up with a gentler shot plan: two on this upcoming Monday and another two on the next Monday. Perfect for spreading out the pain....

Okay, now these shots are on hold. It seems insurance may not pay for them since the SCT wasn't approved. And one of the shots is over $1,000. Although if I get whooping cough or polio or some other thing, the cost would be hundreds of times higher. To say I'm a bit peeved right now is an understatement....

Officially scheduled for Thursday, June 2, for the first round of shots. Wow, over two months late!

First round was pretty easy. One IM, one SC. Pretty much pain free. I know the IM one will hurt in a day or two, so I'll be working arms a lot today, since movement helps speed recovery. My next series is August 11, and then four months later. Then I wait another year for the last round....
