  • Month 9 recovery featured major milestones

As my ninth month post transplant comes to an end, it has been one that was memorable for all good reasons. I drove for the first time in nearly a year and a half. I started using a single forearm crutch to get around the house instead of my walker. I started showering standing up. Video games became suddenly fun again. I’m back to exercising 2 hours a day. I cooked my first full meal without sitting down since I can’t remember when. With the help of a pair of forearm crutches I can once again hike over the roughest terrain. I even went grocery shopping for the first time in ages—and pushed my cart for a solid hour without stopping to rest once. And I walked ¾ of a kilometer with no aids—over seven football fields.

HALT-MS didn’t save my life. But as Month 9 has shown, it is giving me back my life. Let's all hope these gains and others continue....
