  • ABQ: Spacticity trial recruiting for MSers (Lovelace)

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. One of the more common symptoms of MS is called spasticity. Spasticity is muscle stiffness and involuntary muscle spasms caused by MS.

Lovelace Scientific Resources is currently conducting a clinical research study for adults with spasticity due to multiple sclerosis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of an investigational medication when compared to a placebo in adults with spasticity.

    You may qualify if you….
    - Are 18 years of age or older
    - Have spasticity due to MS

    What Can You Expect?
Study participation is expected to last 24 weeks (~6 months) and include up to 12 study visits. The study medication will be given in the form of a pill taken by mouth. There will be the possibility that you will receive a placebo for a portion of this study. A placebo is a pill that looks like the investigational medication but does not contain any active ingredients. Your visits may include ECGs (electrocardiograms), blood collections, providing a urine sample, a neurological examination and/or physical examinations.

If you qualify, you will receive all study related exams, study medication, and laboratory tests at no cost while participating in the study. Compensation for time and travel may be provided.
