The Tangipahoa Parish Multiple Sclerosis Support Group offers a free adaptive yoga class for people living with MS or with similar needs, weekly from 9:30am to 11:00am on Mondays. Contact Judy Lovelady at prior to attending your first class; students are asked to bring their own yoga mat, strap, beach towel, and foam yoga block; please wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle, too.

Yoga is an excellent form of exercise for people living with MS because it involves strengthening and stretching all muscle groups. It also offers movements that may improve range of motion in the joints. Appropriate exercises including yoga practice with a knowledgable, well-trained teacher have the potential to reduce symptoms such as muscle spasticity, muscle weakness, problems with balance, and fatigue. This class offers a balanced approach that addresses strength and flexibility; balance and coordination; and breath work and deep relaxation. It uses chairs and simple props such as yoga blocks, straps, and tennis balls. Yoga poses are adapted for students to be seated for the entire class, if appropriate. When possible and appropriate, some parts of the class involve standing with the use of the chair to assist with balance and stability while standing.

Parking is free and building is fully accessible.

Judy Lovelady is a registered yoga teacher (500 hr. RYT) through Yoga Alliance. For more information, please contact Judy Lovelady or Bill Perkins below.
