I met a fellow active MSer the other day and she had a pair of the coolest forearm crutches. Instead of a metal band that loops around your forearm (and that often gets in the way of coats), it's more of a padded brace. Here's what their website says....
"StrongArmŽ Mobility produces a next generation walking device based on a unique one-piece handle featuring an integral forearm brace. The patented StrongArmŽ design shifts loads from the wrist to the forearm, providing optimum support, stability, and control. The cushioned cradle braces the forearm on three sides to stabilize the wrist, making the entire device feel like a solid extension of the user's arm. The StrongArmŽ Forearm Cane provides lateral support and comfort superior to traditional forearm crutches in a shape that resembles an offset cane."
