  • SKIERS - Looking for advice

I have been downhill skiing for years and years. I started skiing in 1993 at the age of 22. I've skied Colorado, The Rockies in Canada (Banff, Lake Louise, Whistler, Nakiska, etc), the Northeastern US, Ontario, yadda, yadda, yadda. We took about a decade hiatus from skiing while raising our kids, etc. Then we took it back up again about 8 years ago. Since then we've been back to The Rockies numerous times, Ontario, the NE US, Quebec, etc.

In March of 2023, right after I returned from skiing ironically, I had a relapse that affected my left leg. Basically, even now, almost 2 years later I am left with some pretty bad spasticity and diminished range of motion. I walk with a slight limp.

Now, as for skiing and why I am asking for advice from skiers with MS....

I just got back from skiing Mont Tremblant, Quebec. Something I'm noticing is that my left leg (the wonky leg) is that the spasticity is causing it to be shortened a bit and this is making it such that my left ski feels slightly lifted from the ground unless I lean to the left. Obviously, if you are a skier, you can see why this is problematic. When doing long, flat areas I have to actively lean or the skis will surely cross.

Going downhill I am having issues with the right turns. My left turns are still long as smooth but my right turns are shorter and clunkier as I am having trouble digging in that inside edge of the left ski when making right turns. Also, due to reduced range of motion the left knee doesn't bend as much so when turning right my left leg is pretty close to straight instead of getting that nice, slight bend to the knees.

I am looking for ANY advice or thoughts to help me improve my issues and my skiing.
