    ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UP-DATES
    FOR VETERANS AND PROGRAM SUPPORTERS
    **New local program opportunities**
    Please note that the VA Recreation Hall is currently not open and there is no scheduled reopening. Once dates and programs can resume I will announce programs and registration process for reopening. Thank you for your patience. I will continue to update our community programs as they get started.

    RECREATION PROGRAMS
    Adaptive Sports Program NM
    Elephant Butte Lake: Disabled Veterans’ Watersports Camp
    June 4th-6th, Elephant Butte
    Come and camp with us for two nights and join in the fun and exciting activities of water skiing, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, and of course great food and camaraderie.     Adaptive Climbing Night
    4th Friday of the Month 5-8pm, Stone Age Climbing Gym North, 6200 Alameda Blvd
    Individuals with all types of disabilities welcome regardless of experience. Must have a permanent disability. Entry is $12 which includes climbing gear. To register visit www.aspnm.org

    Programs starting locally Summer 2021
    To provide all veterans and their families an opportunity to find health, healing, community purpose, and new challenges through adventure and adaptive paddle sports! TRR programs are open to veterans of all eras and their families, as well as non-service connected individuals either with or without disabilities interested in furthering the mission of TRR.     PGA Hope Golf
    Thursdays, April 29-June 3, 2021, 1-3pm,
    Twin Warriors Golf Course, 1301 Tuyuna Trail, Bernalillo
    Sessions are taught by local PGA Professionals with assistance from trained volunteers and include clubs and equipment if needed, training aids, range balls and weekly golf course access. No preregistration required. Twin Warrior 505-897-0864.

    Paralympic Soccer Adaptive Soccer Virtual Camp

    Clemson Para Soccer is hosting FREE, virtual, adaptive soccer camps. Campers will be introduced to adaptive soccer, complete various certifications, have enjoyable and interactive conversations and learning experiences, partake in a virtual DoorDash dinner, AND MUCH more!     2021 GOLFBUDDY Veterans Classic
    May 23-26, Myrle Beach, SC
    The GOLFBUDDY Veterans Classic is an incredible experience. Built around fellowship & honoring the brave men & women who have served their country, The Veterans Classic is a can’t miss experience for any golfing veteran. Hosted by the world renowned Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina, this event delivers a fun & competitive team event for all to enjoy. This two-person team, 54-hole competition consists of three rounds of tournament golf, welcome gifts, prizes & much more. The event is flighted into 5 groups based on team handicap. Each flight will play a different course each of the three days. To be eligible a team must consist of at least ONE veteran to register. Individual veteran entries are welcomed as well to be paired later. Come to Myrtle Beach and feel what the Veterans Classic experience is all about! Proved by Connecticut Goju Kan, Groton Parks & Recreation, Southern Connecticut State University and Funded by the VA Adaptive Sports Grant

    Beginner Guitar
    Tuesdays, 2:30-4pm ***Forward Flag***
    Volunteer instructors teach this class which is for veterans who are beginners or never picked up a guitar. If you have a guitar, please bring it. If not, the program has some to use during class. Veterans will learn cords, technique, and basic music reading skills. The Programs mission is to provide free instruction in order to use music as a creative constructive outlet for PTSD, TBI, and other disabilities.     This amazing event takes place in Pilar, NM (between Espanola and Taos) and includes two nights of camping and multiple opportunities to raft down a scenic section of the Rio Grande.
