There were officially 24 trial participants in HALT-MS (a potential 25th pulled out at the last moment). I've heard that one of the first HALT-MS participants, who received a transplant in 2007, has passed away recently. This is very sad news. However, researchers do NOT believe his/her passing was associated with the SCT trial. The individual did have other health issues unrelated to MS and the transplant.
I extend my sympathies to this person's family and friends; your loved one has made incalculable strides in MS research, helping all of us get closer to the goal of stopping and curing this disease.
