I'm not into Pilates per se, but learned many exercises & used the machines during PT for my back last fall. As my therapy was winding down, I realized that I needed a way to keep the exercises going, but I hate classes and there was no way I was going to buy a roomful of Pilates gear. Who has that much space or money?
It turns out you can add a *lot* of exercise options beyond what you can do on just a mat, without using up any more space, for under $500. All you need is this nifty Pilates "Springboard": http://www.pilates.com/BBAPP/V/store...ringboard.html
If you do get one, I recommend getting the spring board and mat exercise books that they also sell. In addition to detailed instructions, all the exercises are rated beginner, intermediate or advanced. But if you've never had any Pilates-based instruction, you should probably try to get to a PT a couple of times to make sure you're not doing anything injurious or counterproductive...
