  • The single best weapon to fight multiple sclerosis

With the forum down last week, many of you likely missed my latest news unless you get the newsletter. Now I've long preached the importance of getting SET--stretching, exercising and treating. Well, I changed up the acronym because I realized something important was missing: an "A." That's right, I'm telling everyone with multiple sclerosis to take a SEAT. I know, that sounds counterintuitive, like putting peanut butter on your celery. Seriously, who other than your mother thought that was a good idea. But if you have to gag down raw celery, it's shockingly not half bad. Ack, I'm getting sidetracked.

When you've got a disease like MS, you've got to make some adjustments, some little and some big, there's just no getting around it. And there is one adjustment that trumps them all. One adjustment you have to make if you are going to have any chance at getting the upper hand on your multiple sclerosis. And it's the topic of my latest article that was chosen to be the Nov. 16 feature on the popular inspirational website InspireMeToday.

InspireMeToday features a short "pick-me-up" each day (which you can also get by e-mail, iPhone, etc.) and some pretty famous folks, including Sir Richard Branson, have dished some sage advice. Many of their messages are admittedly a bit heavy on the cheese--think Stuart Smalley and his "I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!" mantra. But not to worry, I spiced it up by talking about the potential of getting mauled to death by lions in the Kenyan outback.

So check it out if you have three minutes. Better yet, add your two cents. In theory, if I get a boatload of comments, I'll be featured in other ways and may get a radio interview. I don't give a rat's tail about the personal exposure, but spreading the message of hope, staying active, and the importance of research all matters. And every bit helps.

    attitude

I love the article theme. Attitude changes perceptions, and perception drives how we experience everything life has to offer. We're entering the time of year where I get to repeat my favorite Christmas story. When I was asked, I told it to my daughter's pre-K class. The teacher knew my daughter kept talking about it, so after asking me to tell it to her, I told it to her class.

I can't remember where I first read it, but it's one of my favorites.

The article is now on the main ActiveMSers site. It now includes a photo of our guide (complete with rifle) and a pic of Laura and an unbelievably terrifying and rare black rhino!
