  • Bladder control AND myelin re-growth possible with Vesicare.

Google the story: “Bladder Drug Re-Grows Myelin, Could Help Ease Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms”
Vesicare (solifenacin) and Detrol (tolterodine) are the same type drug (antimuscarinic) and may have similar benefit to myelin.

Bladder control but possible cognitive problems with oxybutynin (Ditropan) which is an anticholinergic drug.

“ACD (Anticholinergic drugs) are known for their deleterious cognitive effects in older individuals”

I do not advocate for or against either class of drugs and have no financial interests in any of them. This is presented as information which some MSers may find helpful.

One class of bladder control drugs is associated with dementia.

Gray et al. Cumulative use of strong anticholinergics and incident dementia: a prospective cohort study. JAMA Intern Med. 2015 Mar 1;175(3):401-7. doi: 10.1001/jamainternmed.2014.7663.

“CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Higher cumulative anticholinergic use is associated with an increased risk for dementia. Efforts to increase awareness among health care professionals and older adults about this potential medication-related risk are important to minimize anticholinergic use over time.”

    There may be better options.
