End Of The World As We Know It

Love it Dave, life has definitely changed, great idea to share how we're dealing with it.

I have enjoyed baking bread since I was a kid visiting the night baker at the local bake shop around the corner from my house. My current speciality is a french sour dough baguette. It generally takes me about six hours to make a double batch, 8 baguettes, and it provides more than an adequate workout. (We're not talking bread machine bread here.) 8 baguettes might last us a week.

Now that I seem to have extra time on my hands I've started branching out. My first attempt at a sour dough rye loaf was an epic fail, suitable only for building a brick house. With the help of some bakers forums and several other recipes, I think I've figured out the problem. Now if I'm ever able to find more rye flour, I'm ready to try again. (The shelves have all been bare - WTF???)

Meanwhile I'm whipping up a few pastries. My very first ever apple struessel pie was a screaming success! Today I'm venturing into a mixed berry cobbler, I'm sure it will be delicious!

It may be the end of the world as we know it, but I truly am just fine.

    Larry

    COVID-19 NEWSLETTER: The Hunker Games

    Welcome to the Hunker Games!

Dave and his wife Laura of ActiveMSers are hunkering down in isolation for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic--these are their stories (cue the L&O dong-dong) ... along with helpful advice, necessary levity, and, most crucially, hope.

ActiveMSers, welp, we might as well start getting comfy, because it's going to be awhile. Not weeks, but likely months. If it hasn't already happened in your community, in the coming days the coronavirus is going to lock down society worldwide. And if that sounds scary AF*, well, it is. But here's the thing with multiple sclerosis and other serious chronic conditions: they also can be scary AF. And we deftly manage that. Every. Single. Day. So clearly, we have extraordinary superpowers in dealing with things that frighten the bejesus out of people. KNOW THAT. REMIND YOURSELF OF THAT. Because you are going to need those skills. Starting this week, I plan to send you frequent editions of The Hunker Games to keep those skills sharp, your funny bone at least somewhat tickled, and your spirits up. Saturday, March 7, was the last time I ventured out with others in public, and Laura started isolating a few days later. We are trying to minimize exposure as much as possible, even sanitizing e-mails like this one. Rest assured it's covered with virtual Purell! So let's get it to it!

*If you don't know what "AF" stands for, you could Google it. Or maybe don't.
